This place name is quoted as a village toward 1180 (Toussoun, 1925, Vol. 1, pp. 215, 223). It is also mentioned in the al-Tuhfah al-Saniyyah (A.H. 715/A.D. 1315; trans. Sacy, p. 664). It was in the markaz (district) of Abu Hummus, therefore to the northwest of Damanhur.
